Is it just my idea or did many composers borrow "Mars" and "Jupiter" for movie soundtracks? John Williams, what did you do?
The reason Earth is not considered in astrological circles and the reason Holst gave each piece those titles  (although those who produce horoscopes will deny this!) is probably because astrology has nothing what so ever to do with planets and our solar system but everything to do with a belief that Roman gods influence our destiny.
Holst looks like Stephen Hawking
BEST.
The most incredible genius.
I always thought he was German...
I bellieve many have allready said it but the main theme from Mars has inspired so many soundtracks like:

Empire themes in Star Wars
Harry Potter soundtrack (during the chess game in first movie when Harry's doing his final move against the enemy King)
The opening battle theme in Gladiator
and many more
The beginning makes me wanna rob a bank and hog-tie a few bankers and CEO's together in the town square.

Wonder how this guy would rate some of our sci-fi soundtracks of today if he could come back and give a listen?
Oculus Rift+SpaceEngine+Gustav Holst - The Planets, Op. 32=mindblowing
The ending of Venus reminds me of The Princess Leia Theme. in touches my heart in a way I can not explain
It's ineffable.
Uranus, the bringer of foul substances.
the theme between 24:00-25:00 sounds a bit like the shire from LOTR...
Our bacon solar system

Baconmars  bringer of sausage
Baconnus  bringer of salt
Baconcury bringer of breakfast
Baconpiter  bringer of pork
Baconturn bringer of muffins
Baconanus bringer of burgers
Bacontune bringer of rinds
My anus is the magician.
my music for choreography
I cried at the end of Saturn. Help me.
Does anyone know if the very stately theme that appears in Jupiter is a Hymn or another melody from anther source? Or did the Hymn come from the Jupiter?
